Obituary for Joel J. Wiest

Joel John Wiest, 83, of Myerstown, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon.

Born in Myerstown, PA on November 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Warren G. and Kathryn I. (Garloff) Wiest.

He started off with a dream of being a professional trumpet player. Upon graduating with a BS in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College, he served in the First U.S. Army Chorus. After leaving the Army he was a backup singer for Debbie Reynolds and later after years in the music industry became an attorney.  He loved Blue Eyed Sheepdogs, Ice Cream, Playing Piano, Writing Songs and singing in the car with his daughters.

Joel is survived by daughters, Molly Wiest Logothetis (Paul) of Rochester, NY, O'Brian Wiest, of Myerstown; grandchildren, Jack Riley Logothetis and Piper Kathryn Wiest; loving cousins and his aunt, Hilda Alexander, of Ephrata.
   
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Inurnment with military honors will be at  Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Myerstown.
